Take a bag that is too small. Check the weather at your destination and only bring the essential clothing. Pack smart. Buy small but long-lasting travel goods (such as shampoo bars) and take the smallest electronics with you. Traveling light is good for the holiday feeling, the environment and you never will pay extra for excess luggage. Also: a light suitcase is a light head.
